CODEGIRL Privacy Policy

Last updated: 18 October 2026. CODEGIRL is provided by Studio 13 Developers, Ngora, Uganda (“we”). Contact: support@studio13developers.com.

What CODEGIRL is

CODEGIRL is a coding education service for girls and beginners, available on the web at www.studio13developers.com/codegirl and as an Android app. Learners describe problems, study algorithms and code, practise and are assessed automatically. Teachers can follow the learners in their classes.

Information we collect

  • Account details: display name, username, password (stored only as a salted scrypt hash), optional email address, preferred language and role (learner, teacher or administrator).
  • Learning records: problems you describe, lessons you start, code drafts, submitted code, assessment results, hints used, progress, achievements and class membership.
  • Technical records: sign-in times, security and audit logs (including IP address) and, for offline use, data stored on your own device (downloaded lessons, drafts and pending changes).
  • Voice: when you press the microphone button, speech recognition is performed by your browser or phone's speech service; CODEGIRL receives only the resulting text. We do not record or store audio of learners.

How we use it

  • To run your account, save and synchronise your work across devices, run and assess your code and show your progress.
  • To let your teacher see your progress and submissions if you join their class with a class code.
  • To keep the service secure (rate limiting, abuse prevention, audit logs) and to review problem descriptions for inappropriate content.

We do not sell personal information, do not show advertising and do not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.

Code execution and AI

Code you run is executed in an isolated sandbox on our server or in your own browser. If the AI lesson generator is enabled, the text of a problem you describe (but not your name or account details) may be sent to Anthropic, our AI provider, to create a lesson. Generated lessons are checked automatically before you see them.

Children

CODEGIRL is designed for learners aged 13 and over, and for younger learners whose parent, guardian or teacher has agreed to their account. Email is optional for learners. Parents and guardians can ask us to access or delete a child's data at any time.

Sharing

Your data is stored on our hosting provider's servers. It is shared only with your teachers (as described above), with service providers that process data on our behalf (hosting, email, and the AI provider when enabled), or when required by law.

Retention and deletion

We keep your account and learning records until you delete your account. You can delete your account at any time in Settings, or see how to delete your account. Deleting the account permanently removes your profile, drafts, submissions, assessment results and progress. Security logs are kept for up to 12 months.

Demo accounts (from Try the Demo) ask for no personal information and are deleted automatically, with everything done in them, 24 hours after they start, or straight away when you choose “End demo”.

Security

Connections use HTTPS. Passwords are hashed, sign-in sessions are rotated and can be revoked, and access to learner data is limited by role on the server.

Your rights

You can access and correct your details in Settings and request a copy or deletion of your data by writing to support@studio13developers.com. We handle personal data in line with Uganda's Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019.
